What to Do if You Struggle to Share a Bed with Your Partner

If you struggle to share a bed with your partner, this does not mean that you do not love them or that it is their fault, and nor does it have to completely ruin your relationship with them. If you find it difficult to share a bed with your partner, here are some of the steps that you can take to make it easier on you both.

  • Sleep Separately

Although this might not be what you want to hear, if you struggle to share a bed with your partner, sometimes the best option is for you to sleep separately from each other. This can help you to sleep in an environment that suits you and can limit disruptions to your sleep pattern. If you do not have the space to sleep separately or do not want to do so, you could think about investing in single beds and turning your shared bedroom into a twin room that can help you to stay cooler and more relaxed while you sleep while still being close to each other.

  • Stop Them Snoring

One of the top reasons why couples do not sleep well next to each other is that one of them snores. This can be incredibly disruptive to both people and the noise can stop you from being able to get the deep sleep that you need throughout the night as it can interrupt your cycle. Luckily, before you throw them out of your bed entirely, there are many solutions that you can try to stop your partner from snoring, including an array of anti-snoring devices. If they are reluctant to try these, you should talk to them about the effect their snoring is having on you and your relationship. You might also consider talking to them about the possibility of them having sleep apnea if their snores are loud and frequent.

  • Change Your Sleeping Position

If you wake up hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable and you often fall to sleep cuddled up to your partner, you should consider changing your sleeping position. For instance, you might try to sleep facing away from them or completely on the opposite side of the bed. This could help you have a cooler night’s sleep and can make sure that you do not end up kicking each other awake during the night.

  • Try an Eye Mask

You might constantly argue about the best ways to achieve the perfect sleeping environment within your home. If you are finding it difficult to find a sleeping environment that suits you both, you should consider making changes to the way that you sleep individually. For instance, you might consider wearing an eye mask in bed, especially if you do not have blackout blinds or if you need a little bit of light in the room in question in order to sleep well.

  • Use Different Duvets

One of you might be too hot in bed and the other might be too cold. Not only this, but if you constantly wake up to find that your partner has been a duvet thief and stolen the covers, you should consider investing in different duvets for you and your partner. This will enable you to wrap yourself up in your duvet however you like, without any interference from them.
